``आडो माडो केळ कशी वाढो''

मला आजही ते दिवस आठवतात. आम्ही भावंडं लहानपणी खूप दंगामस्ती करायचो. माती-चिखलात लोळायचो, मग आई आम्हांला बोचकुलाला धरून न्हाणीघरात न्यायची व स्वच्छ आंघोळ घालायची. आंघोळीच्या शेवटी आई थोडंसं पाणी हातात घेऊन आमच्या भोवताली फिरवायची व वर उंच उडवायची, छोटूच्या भोवती पाणी फिरवून आई म्हणायची, ``आडो- माडो माड कसा वाढो'' व माझ्या भोवताली फिरवून म्हणायची,``आडो माडो केळ कशी वाढो.'' मग माझी ओरड सुरू, मी आईला म्हणायचे, ``असं काय गं, आई? छोटूला माड कसा वाढो म्हणतेस आणि मला मात्र केळ कशी?'' तशी आई हसत-हसत म्हणायची, ``अगं, तू माड कशी वाढलीस तर तुला खपवणार कोण?'' मग मात्र मी गप्प, कारण मला त्याचा नीटसा अर्थबोध होत नव्हता; पण जशी मी मोठी होत गेले, तसे तिचे शब्द माझ्या डोक्यात थैमान घालू लागले व मला त्यातला मतितार्थ समजू लागला.
मी जेव्हा आमच्या कुळागरात जायचे तेव्हा प्रत्येक माडाला व केळीला निरखून पाहायची. माड कसा अगदी तोऱ्यात डोलत उभा राही. उंचच-उंच माडाला पाहताना माझी मान अगदी मोडून जाई, कितीशाच शेलींचे, चुडतांचे वजन तोलून तो खंबीरपणे उभा राही. केवढाही वारा-पाऊस आला तरी तो डगमगत नसे. शेंड्यापासून बुंध्यापर्यंत त्याच्या सर्वच गोष्टी उपयोगाच्या. सणवाराला नारळ ठेवल्याशिवाय कुठल्याच सणावाराची सुरुवात होत नसे. गावात कोणाचा सत्कार करायचा झाला तर त्याला शाल व श्रीफळ दिले जायचे! केवढा मान या माडाला, खरंतर माडाची स्तुती करावी तेवढी थोडी, म्हणूनच माडाला `कल्पवृक्ष' म्हटलं जातं.
पण केळ मात्र खुजी-बुटकी, नाजूक व मुलायम; पण स्वभावाने मात्र मृदू व सगळया उष्णतेच्या, तामसी वृत्तीच्या लोकांसाठी लाभदायक; परंतु केळ जराशाही धक्क्यानं कोसळणारी व जोराच्या वाऱ्या-पावसाने उन्मळून पडणारी. मला आठवतं एकदा एका रानटी डुकराने सुळे खुपसून आमच्या केळीच्या चिंधड्या-चिंधड्या केल्या होत्या व आतील रस गोड कांडी खाऊन निघून गेला होता. ते दृश्य पाहिल्यावर मला त्या रानटी डुकराचा राग आला होता व त्या असाहाय्य केळीची कीव आली होती. मी रडत-रडत घरी येऊन आईला म्हणाले होते की, तू आजपासून मला केळ कशी वाढो म्हणू नकोस. ती आपलं रक्षण आपण नाही करू शकत; मला तिच्यासारखं दुर्बल नाही बनायचं. मला पण माडासारखं खंबीर, निर्भीड व आत्मविश्वासू बनायचं आहे. तेव्हा आई मला म्हणाली की, माडासारखी खंबीर बन; पण केळीसारखी मृदू व संवेदनशीलही रहा, त्याचा आयुष्यात खूप फायदा होतो.
आज समाजात डुक्कररूपी रानटी माणसंही फार आहेत. डुक्कर केळीचं शोषण करतात, त्याचप्रमाणे ही रानटी माणसं बाईचं शोषण करतात व तिचं जिणं असह्य होतं. खरंतर प्रसंगी बाईनं माडासारखं खंबीर, निर्भीड, सशक्त व सामर्थ्यवान झालं पाहिजे, म्हणजेच पुरुषाचे काही गुण तिच्या अंगी आले पाहिजेत. म्हणजे ती कुठल्याही संकटाला घाबरणार नाही व ती खंबीरपणे न डगमगता उभी राहील व पुरुषांनी बाईतील काही गुणांना आत्मसात करून मृदू व संवेदनशील झालं पाहिजे. खरंतर बाईच्या याच गुणांचा पुरुष स्वत:ला फायदा करून घेतात व तिच्या बळावर मोठे होऊन तिच्याच जिवावर उठतात. समाजातील वाढत चाललेल्या अत्याचाराचं मूळ कारण म्हणजे मानसिक संवेदनशीलता नष्ट होत चालली आहे व माणसातील माणुसकी हरपली आहे.
परिपूर्ण पुरुष म्हणजे बाईवर सत्ता गाजवणारा व आपल्या कमावलेल्या शरीराच्या बळावर बाईला खाली रेटणारा असं समजलं जातं; परंतु जो बाईशी संवेदनशीलतेने वागतो, तिच्या भावनांचा आदर करतो व तिच्याशी माणुसकीने वागतो तो खरा परिपूर्ण पुरुष. एखाद्या पुरुषाने असं वागण्याचा प्रयत्न केला तर त्याला `बायल्या' म्हणून हिणवलं जातं व लगेच त्याच्या तथाकथित पुरुषत्वाला ठेच पोचून तो अधिक रानटी बनतो. एखादी बाई निर्भीड बनून अन्यायाविरुद्ध आवाज काढत असेल, तर तिला `नाचरी' म्हणून संबोधलं जातं व तिच्या चारित्र्यावर शिंतोडे उडवून तिचा आवाज कायमचाच बंद केला जातो. जी स्त्री नाजूक, सुंदर, मृदू व त्यागी असेल, संस्कृती रक्षणासाठी आपले प्राण पणाला लावते, पुरुषाच्या बंधनात राहून त्याच्या मर्जीप्रमाणे वागते तिला परिपूर्ण स्त्री म्हटलं जातं व तिचा गौरव करून तिला पूजनीय देवी-माता म्हणून मखरात बंदिस्त ठेवलं जातं. प्रत्येक स्त्री मग परिपूर्ण बनून आदर मिळविण्याच्या अट्टहासात पूर्णपणे जखडली जाते. समाजाने व निसर्गाने लादलेल्या बंधनातून तिची सुटका होत नाही व नोकरी, घरकाम, मुलांचं संगोपन या रामरगाड्यात पुरुषाचा जराही हातभार न लागल्यामुळे तिला तारेवरची कसरत करावी लागते.
आईनं तेव्हा हसत-हसत म्हटलेल्या वाक्याचा अर्थ मला आज समजतो, ती मला म्हणाली होती की, माड कशी वाढलीस तर तुला खपवणार कोण? म्हणजेच माझ्याशी लग्न कोण करणार. आजच्या पुरुषसत्ताक संस्कृतीत बाईनं स्वातंत्र्याच्या गोष्टी केलेल्या चालत नाही. तिने आपली पायरी ओळखूनच राहिलं पाहिजे. तिने ब्र जरी उच्चारला तरी तिचं तोंड कायमचं बंद केलं जातं.
लग्नाच्या बाजारात मुलीचा पक्का व्यवहार केला जातो. गृहकृत्यदक्ष, सुंदर, नाजूक, घारी, गोरी तिला जास्त प्राधान्य व बाकीच्या समस्त मुलींनी जणू मुलीच्या जन्माला येऊन पाप केलेलं; कारण त्यांना खपवण्यासाठी बापाला बराच बोजा द्यावा लागतो, नाहीतर त्या बापावर बोज बनतात.
खरंतर स्त्री व पुरुष दोघेही समाजाचे अत्यंत महत्त्वाचे घटक आहेत. ती संसार-रथाची दोन चाकं आहेत. ती समांतरच चालली पाहिजेत. नाहीतर रथ कोसळणार. म्हणून दोघांनाही समान दर्जा व वागणूक मिळाली पाहिजे. पुरुषाने बाईला भोग्यवस्तू न समजता तिचा आदर केला पाहिजे व बाईनेही स्वातंत्र्य व स्वैराचार यातला फरक ओळखून माणुसकीनं वागलं पाहिजे. पुरुषाच्या बरोबरीनं चालणं म्हणजे त्याच्यासारखं वागणं किंवा तसा पेहराव करणं नव्हे तर निर्भीड, आत्मविश्वासू बनून आपलं वेगळंपण जपणं व त्याच्याही वेगळेपणाचा आदर करणं.
आज कितीतरी स्त्रियांनी वेगवेगळया क्षेत्रांत आपला ठसा उमटवला आहे. तशी उंच भरारी घेण्याची संधी प्रत्येक बाईला मिळाली पाहिजे म्हणजे ती आकाशाला गवसणी घालू शकेल व त्यासाठी प्रत्येक मुला-मुलीला एकाच छत्राखाली समान वागणुकीने वाढवलं पाहिजे व त्याचं बाळकडू लहानपणीच दिलं पाहिजे.
म्हणजे मग माडासारखा उंच वाढलेला पुरुष बाईकडे आदराने बघेल व केळीसारखी मृदू बाईही मान उंचावून पुरुषाकडे पाहायला घाबरणार नाही.
